Mahindra introduced its much-awaited compact SUV, the XUV300, today in the Indian market. The XUV300 gets petrol and diesel engine options, with both mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
A few days ago we broke the news that Mahindra was readying an AMT version that will join the line-up post the launch of the manual XUV300. The company confirmed this news at the event. We also spotted Dr Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra drive out of the launch venue in an almost production-ready test mule of the XUV300 AMT.
The AMT unit in the XUV300 will be a Magneti Marelli unit for now, but Mahindra is expected to replace this with a torque converter from Aisin when it launches the BS-VI variant of the SUV.
The XUV300 AMT will take on the likes of the Vitara Brezza AMT, the Nexon AMT and the EcoSport automatic when it hits Mahindra showrooms next month. Expect the XUV300 AMT to cost around Rs 50,000 more than the standard manual-gearbox-equipped variant.
