The Mahindra XUV400 EV has been confirmed with unique rear styling, as seen in this spy photo that has surfaced online. As reported earlier, Mahindra’s new electric SUV – a rival to the popular Nexon EV – is based on the XUV300 compact SUV and will most likely get the XUV400 moniker upon its launch in early 2023.

  • XUV400 EV to get a unique rear design
  • Will be 4.2m long but wheelbase length to be same as XUV300
  • Expected to get tech features from XUV700

Mahindra XUV400 EV to get unique looks

The spy photo confirms that the SUV will have a unique rear design. The new-look wraparound tail-lamps stretch horizontally, it gets a different tailgate and rear bumper, and the overall look of the SUV is much rounder, instead of a flatter profile seen on the 4m-long XUV300. Speaking of length, as reported by us earlier, Mahindra will extend the XUV400 EV’s length to around 4.2m, as the sub-4m rule for subsidy benefits does not apply to electric vehicles. The latest spy shot also confirms that the final design of the new Mahindra XUV400 EV could have more in common with the styling of the eXUV300 concept shown at the Auto Expo 2020, which had a similar rear profile.

Mahindra XUV400 EV: expected powertrain and features

Mahindra will equip the electric SUV with a single motor that powers the front wheels and makes 150hp, which is slightly more in comparison to the 143hp, Tata Nexon EV Max. Whilst the information regarding the range and battery capacity remains unclear, it is expected that the XUV400 EV will come with the latest connected tech and ADAS features from the XUV700.

Mahindra’s future plans

The XUV400 EV will play a key role in helping the brand establish itself as a mainstream EV brand like Tata Motors and MG Motor. The SUV is part of Mahindra’s plans of launching as many as eight passenger EVs by 2027, which also includes ‘born electric’ SUVs. Recently, the brand has also signed an agreement with Volkswagen to explore the use of its batteries and other EV components for use in Mahindra’s future EVs.
