Mahindra is all set to introduce the updated XUV500 in the Indian market on April 18, 2018. The new XUV500 facelift, as reported by us earlier, gets styling tweaks inside out.
There’s a new-look grille up front that’s embellished with a thick chrome surround and studded detailing. The bumper has been tweaked as well, with higher variants sporting a dual-tone faux skid plate, while the reprofiled headlamps get projector units and LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs).
At the back, the vertical tail-lamps have been replaced by new triangular units placed horizontally just below the rear windscreen. The XUV500 also gets a restyled tailgate, with chrome accents above the license plate enclosure.
On the inside, the XUV500 facelift will come with tan-coloured leather seats with quilted cross-stitching. Soft-touch materials on the all-black dash will also help the perceived quality in the cabin.
Mahindra has updated the infotainment system of the new XUV500 and will also introduce a new smartwatch app under its BlueSense banner.
Under the hood, the XUV500 gets a power upgrade too. The 2.2-litre diesel now delivers 155hp at 3,750rpm and 360Nm of torque at 1,750-2,800rpm on the top-spec variant. The engine gets a new sixth-gen turbocharger along with new ‘eVGT’ technology that works according to the ECU signals and acceleration. This motor delivers a fuel efficiency figure 15.4kpl, as tested by ARAI. The lesser variants however, are likely to continue with the 140hp version which gives 15.1kpl (4X2 variant). Mahindra will also sell the recently introduced 140hp 2.2-litre petrol motor on the XUV500.
The refreshed XUV500 will be offered in five diesels and a single petrol variant. The top-spec variant will come with the new 155hp motor. The company will also offer the six-speed automatic gearbox option in as many as four diesel variants. There is no word on pricing as yet but we expect a price hike of around Rs 25,000-30,000 over the outgoing model.
