Mahindra took the wraps off its future all-electric SUV range in the UK in concept form last August. These upcoming EVs were designed at Mahindra’s MADE (Mahindra Advanced Design Europe) design studio in Oxfordshire, UK, and will now be shown to the Indian audience for the first time on February 10 – a day before the first Formula E race weekend at Hyderabad.
- Mahindra to debut XUV.e and BE SUVs at Formula E race weekend
- Production-spec models to come from 2024 onwards
The carmaker brings national representation on the Formula E grid with its Mahindra Racing factory team, which has been a part of Formula E since its inception. The team is fielding the M9Electro race car that has secured a podium this season in Mexico. The Hyderabad E Prix weekend, therefore, makes for an apt setting for the debut of Mahindra’s future passenger EVs in India.
Mahindra electric SUV concepts: what is known?
Mahindra’s upcoming range of electric SUVs is categorised into two distinct brands – XUV.e and BE, the latter of which is a newly constituted electric-only sub-brand. The XUV.e has two models under it, while the BE has three.
While both model lines will have completely unique design philosophies, they will all be underpinned by the same born-electric INGLO platform. The XUV.e range will be the first to enter production from December 2024 onwards, followed by the BE models from October 2025.
Mahindra XUV.e SUV range
Mahindra’s XUV brand is already pretty well known with its range of ICE models, but the company is using a new identity for its electric counterpart. The twin peaks logo on the XUV range of EVs will have a copper finish as already seen on the recently launched XUV400. The XUV.e8 – the first of the XUV.e models – is an electric counterpart of the XUV700. Do note, it's not an ICE-to-electric conversion, but is only conceptually similar to the XUV700. It will be followed by the XUV.e9, which is a completely new vehicle with a coupe-like design and go into production in April 2025.
Mahindra BE SUV range
Meanwhile, the BE range of EVs, which are due from 2025 onwards, will have a markedly different look with C-shaped LED headlamp and tail-lamp elements and sharply cut body surfaces.
Starting the BE range is the BE.05 coupe-SUV – labelled as a Sports Electric Vehicle and measuring about 4.3 metres in length. This will be followed by the BE.07, which has a more traditional SUV design and measures around 4.6 metres in length. It also boasts of a tech-laden cabin with screens that stretch across the full width of the dashboard. Lastly, there’s the BE.09, which, from the looks of it, appears to be a coupe version of the BE.07, and sits at the top of the BE line-up. Although dimensions are currently unknown, Mahindra says the BE.09 will be a four-seater.
Expect more details on the upcoming Mahindra EV SUV line-up to be revealed closer to their launch.
