Maruti Suzuki says bookings for its recently launched premium MPV, the Invicto, currently hover around 7,000 units, and the numbers are only going to go higher from here. A quick check with the dealers confirms a waiting period of around two months for the Invicto at most locations.

The Invicto gets two seating layouts, like its platform sibling, the Toyota Innova Hycross. It is being retailed via Maruti's Nexa outlets and has already reached showrooms for test drives at most locations.

  1. Invicto deliveries to commence later in July
  2. Top variant misses out on ADAS tech
  3. Comes with petrol-hybrid powertrain only

Prospective Innova Hycross customers eyeing Invicto

Most buyers of the Invicto are those who are upgrading from smaller models or other MPVs, but some dealers tell us that a few Innova Hycross customers are cancelling their bookings for the Maruti MPV, owing to the difference in delivery timelines. The Innova Hycross hybrid range, which is equivalent to the Invicto, commands a waiting period of around eight to ten months at most locations.

As far as powertrain goes, the Invicto gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a strong hybrid powertrain, similar to the Innova Hycross. It comes with an eCVT automatic gearbox only, making it the first and only Maruti at the moment to not be offered with a manual gearbox.

Top-spec Invicto sees more demand

With the Invicto, Maruti has, for the first time, entered the Rs 20 lakh-30 lakh category, with on-road pricing for the top model breaching the Rs 34 lakh mark. The Invicto, built and supplied by Toyota, has many firsts for Maruti as far as features and technology are concerned. It, however, only gets subtle design differences over the Innova Hycross.

Our dealer sources have revealed that the top-spec Alpha+ trim, which gets features like 17-inch wheels, a six-speaker stereo and a panoramic sunroof, is seeing higher demand as compared to the entry-level Zeta trim+.

While the Invicto shares a lot with the Innova Hycross, some features from the Toyota are not available on the Maruti at all such as the 360-degree camera, the ADAS suite, the ottoman seats and larger 18-inch wheels. Here's a detailed look at pricing and features comparison between the Maruti Invicto and the Toyota Innova Hycross.
