Maruti Suzuki will be bringing at least three new cars and SUVs to the Indian market next year. Interestingly, all these models are all-new – the third-gen Swift, the all-new Dzire and Maruti’s first electric vehicle, the eVX SUV. Here’s what you can look forward to and when, in order of launch.
Disclaimer: All prices and launch timelines are estimates.
1. New Maruti Suzuki Swift
Price: Rs 6 lakh-9 lakh
Launch: Early 2024
Engine 1.2 petrol (Z-series)
It’s not surprising that the fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift will make its way to India just a couple of months after the hatchback made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show – the new Swift has already been spotted testing here. The spy shots, and the model that was showcased at the event, showed that the new Swift’s design is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. The overall silhouette and size is about the same, but the headlight, tail-lights and plastic parts are different.
The cabin of the new Swift will be familiar to those who have seen the interiors of recent Maruti model – the large floating touchscreen infotainment system, the three-spoke steering, assorted switchgear and various knobs. However, neither the ADAS tech nor the rear disc brakes seen on the model displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show are expected on the India-spec Swift.
Expected to arrive in early 2024, the all-new Swift will debut Suzuki’s new Z-Series engines in the country. This new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will replace the current 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series engine, and is said to improve fuel efficiency and bottom-end torque, although power outputs have not been revealed yet. Manual and automatic gearbox options are also expected with this engine, and a CNG-powered Swift is expected at a later date.
2. New Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Price: Rs 7 lakh-9.5 lakh
Launch: Mid 2024
Engine: 1.2 petrol
The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire’s India launch is expected not too long after the Swift arrives. Similar to its hatchback sibling, the fourth-gen Dzire is expected to sport an evolutionary design, significant updates to the interiors and a long equipment list. Maruti’s compact sedan will also share the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine (codenamed Z12) with the Swift, along with its manual, automatic and CNG options. It’ll be a comprehensive update, as Maruti will hope that the Dzire will continue to be the bestselling sedan, as it was in FY2023.
3. Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV
Price: Rs 23 lakh-25 lakh
Launch: Late 2024
Battery: 48kWh, 60kWh
Maruti Suzuki’s first born-electric SUV, the eVX, will arrive in India late next year. From everything we know about the all-electric midsize SUV – from the concept that debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo to the latest eVX spy shots taken in India – its design will be similar to the Grand Vitara SUV and the Fronx crossover, with an SUV-coupe-like rear-end. On the inside, we expect Maruti to add several premium bits like a twin-screen setup, powered front seats, a 360-degree camera and ADAS tech.
The eVX is expected to go on sale with two battery pack options – a 48kWh unit and a 60kWh one. The former will be used on entry-level variants of the eVX and provide about 400km of range, while the latter will be offered on top-spec trims and go about 450km on a single charge.
However, it remains to be seen if all this will be enough to make a dent in sales against the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, and higher variants of the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. The Maruti Suzuki eVX will also have a Toyota-badged version that is likely to arrive in 2025. Both EV SUVs are built on a heavily localised derivative of Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture, and will be produced at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant.
