Maruti Suzuki has opened bookings for the CNG version of its popular compact SUV, the Brezza, at Rs 25,000, hinting that its launch is just around the corner. Deliveries are likely to begin after roughly three to four months. Maruti Suzuki first showcased the Brezza CNG at Auto Expo 2023 in January.
- Maruti Brezza CNG will be offered in all 4 trims
- Will have no direct rivals upon launch
- Bookings open for a token amount of Rs 25,000
When launched, the Brezza will likely be the first CNG vehicle to offer an automatic gearbox and will be available in four trims – LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. Unlike other CNG models from Maruti Suzuki, the Brezza CNG will be available in all trims just like the ICE-powered version.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG powertrains
While its powertrain details are all but confirmed, it will get a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine like the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs. In petrol mode, the engine will produce 100hp and 136Nm of torque, while in CNG mode, it will produce 88hp and 121.5Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual and is likely to get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
For the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs, Maruti Suzuki claims that these MPVs have a fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg and Brezza CNG’s figures could be similar, if not better, as it is lighter than the two MPVs.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG design and features
Visually, the CNG and ICE versions will be nearly identical, save for an S-CNG badge that’s also present on other Maruti Suzuki CNG models. The other differentiating factor will be the reduced boot space due to the addition of the CNG tank.
Since the CNG version is offered with the same trims as the ICE version, expect it to be offered with the same levels of equipment. The Brezza CNG will get a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with SmartPlay Pro+, voice assistant, connected car tech with OTA updates, start/ stop button, six airbags and a rear-view camera.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG expected price and rivals
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG is expected to be more expensive by Rs 95,000 compared to its petrol counterpart. The latter is currently priced at Rs 8.19 lakh-Rs 13.88 lakh (ex-showroom).
When launched, the Brezza CNG will have no direct rivals as it will be the first compact SUV to offer a CNG powertrain. However, it will compete with the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300. Out of these, only the Kia Sonet is expected to get a CNG version, but there is no information on when it will be launched.
