While the launch was originally slated for May end, our dealer sources tell us it has now been pushed to the first week of June. They also confirmed that the Jimny has garnered over 24,500 bookings so far; the waiting period for the manual variants will stretch up to six months upon launch, while the automatic variants have a waiting period of up to eight months. Bluish Black, Kinetic Yellow and Pearl Arctic White have been the most popular colour choices on the Jimny so far.
The Jimny will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant for both domestic and export markets. We previously reported that the brand aims to produce around one lakh units of the SUV per year; around 7,000 units of which will be earmarked for the domestic market each month, with the rest being allocated for exports. Our sources have also told us that the top-spec Alpha trim of the Jimny will witness priority in the production sequence, courtesy of high demand.
