The new Maruti Suzuki Swift has achieved a new sales record by retailing over 1 lakh units in just 145 days since launch. The brand claims that record marks the new Swift as the fastest model to achieve this milestone in India.
Cumulatively, the Swift has sold over 1.89 million units in India since the first-generation model arrived in 2005. The model also has the distinction of being the 20-millionth vehicle to be produced by the Japanese brand in the country and the first export model to roll out of Suzuki’s facility in Gujarat. In the past few months, Maruti Suzuki has hit a number of milestones in the country, including selling over 3 lakh AMT-equipped models.
The Swift, in India, shares its lightweight Heartect platform with a large number of its stablemates from the Baleno, Dzire and Ignis to the upcoming second-gen Ertiga. Partially thanks to the new platform, the hatchback possesses typical Maruti Suzuki traits such as fuel efficiency and a peppy drive. The brand has also introduced AMT-equipped versions that are mated to both, the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 75hp, 1.3-litre diesel engines.
Top-spec trims of Maruti’s rival to the Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10 are well kitted and come equipped as standard with automatic projector LED headlamps with daytime running lamps, a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and navigation that doubles as the reversing camera, along with climate control, dual-front airbags and ABS.
