Lanzante Ltd – known for its work on customer McLaren F1 and F1 GTRs, restoration and servicing of classic cars and auto racing under the name Lanzante Motorsport – has now announced that it will convert existing P1 GTRs for road use on a case-to-case basis.

Lanzante shares a twenty-year history with McLaren dating back to Lanzante Motorsport’s debut victory at Le Mans in 1995 using a McLaren F1 GTR. Lanzante has since then been an active service centre for all road and race McLarens. Dean Lanzante, chief of Lanzante, has said that the company would keep the road-legal P1 GTR a step above the standard P1.

Neither McLaren nor its special operations division are expected to be directly involved in the process but are expected to fully co-operate with Lanzante for the conversion process. The first conversion is expected to start sometime later this year.

The McLaren P1 GTR, only sold to existing P1 customers, is a hardcore track-only version of the road-legal P1. Using a combination of a petrol engine and an electric motor, the car generates a total of around 986bhp and has a kerb weight of only 1,440kg. This gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 685bhp per tonne.
