Mercedes-AMG recently took the wraps off the first-ever A35 sedan, which is based on the standard-wheelbase A-class sedan. Today, we’ve got our hands on a new set of pictures of an all-new Mercedes-AMG A35 L sedan that is likely to make its debut at the upcoming Shanghai Auto show.
The A35 L sits on a wheelbase that is extended by 60mm over the standard A35 sedan, which makes it one of the very few long-wheelbase Mercedes models to get proper AMG treatment. It is based on the long-wheelbase A-class sedan (Codename: Z177) that’s currently sold only in China. Like the standard A35 sedan, the A35 L is powered by the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 306hp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
While the standard A35 comes with 4Matic all-wheel-drive tech, it is yet to be confirmed whether the A35 L gets the same setup. The standard sedan can do 0-100kph in 4.8sec, while the lengthened A35 L is expected to touch 100kph under 5sec.
On the design front, the A35 L gets similar styling like the ones seen on the standard car that includes enlarged air intakes upfront, a front splitter and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. It also features an aggressive rear diffuser and twin-exhaust system.
The A35 L’s interior gets Mercedes’ MBUX multimedia system, along with a fully digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen under one piece of glass. The sedan also gets AMG sports seats in the front. An AMG performance steering wheel (same as the one seen on the AMG C63) is available as an optional extra. The model will get more legroom at the back than the standard A35 sedan, thanks to extended wheelbase.
The A35 L is likely to be a China-only model for now. The company is considering the non-AMG A-class sedan for an India launch.
Here is how the A-class L sedan measures up against the standard A-class sedan and the C-class:
