Mercedes-Benz inaugurates new R&D facility in Bangalore

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India’s new facility confirms its commitment towards the expansion of its R&D and IT activities in India.

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) inaugurated its second facility at Whitefield, Bangalore today. The MBRDI was founded in 1996 to support the parent company – Daimler's research, IT and product development, and is now one of the largest R&D centers of Daimler outside Germany.

The new facility, located close to Whitefield Palms – the head office of MBRDI, is called the ‘Embassy Crest’, and it has been set up by the MBRDI to confirm its commitment towards the expansion of its R&D and IT activities in the country. This new facility has the capacity to utilize a workforce of over 2,400 employees.

Thomas Merker, vice president, Mercedes-Benz Cars Development and acting chairman MBRDI said, "MBRDI plays an important role within our global research and development organization, and this new facility is another milestone in the growth story of Mercedes-Benz R&D in India.

“With currently over 2,000 talented engineers and close to 200 patents filed for innovation in automotive development - MBRDI is a success story. India is a high potential market for our company and MBRDI will continue to ensure that development initiatives are in accordance to customer needs."

To add to this, Manu Saale, MD and CEO, MBRDI said that the organization’s mission is to become a centre of excellence within Daimler for Engineering and IT. He also said that their aim is to boost the "robust growth phase" that the company is in.
