Mercedes G-Class facelift: what do the spy shots reveal?
These partially camouflaged test mules seen in these spy shots sent by our friends at Motor.es confirm that the G-Class facelift will not see major changes to its bodyshell. Up front, expect the nose to get a more prominent grille and bumper, a slightly more pronounced skid plate and a mildly reprofiled headlamp design. The grille design, as always, would vary depending on the powertrain.
The alloy wheel designs will see an update too, with the sportier iterations getting a gloss-black finish, and at the rear, expect mild alterations to the bumper and tail-lamps.
On the inside, expect minor cosmetic tweaks to the dashboard design, while the steering wheel, full-digital instrument cluster and MBUX infotainment system will also see updates. Most importantly, it will get a new touchscreen-equipped interface instead of the one on the current model that's operated via a rotary dial on the centre console. The updated G-Class will also get the latest set of driver assistance systems that are seen on newer Mercedes-Benz models.
Mercedes G-Class facelift: updated powertrain line-up
Sources tell us that the updated G-Class may ditch the diesel powertrain and continue with petrol only. The V8-powered G 500 that was recently discontinued will be replaced by twin-turbo V6-powered iteration with mild-hybrid tech. Additionally, the all-electric G-Class that was revealed in prototype form in November last year – likely to be called the Mercedes EQG in production-spec – will see a debut alongside the facelifted model.
Mercedes G-Class facelift: global debut timeline
Expect Mercedes-Benz to debut the G-Class facelift just before the end of this year, with sales commencing next year. In India, however, since the G-Class got updated recently, the market launch of the facelifted model could be some time away. The G-Class here currently comes in AMG-line and Adventure Edition variants.
