MG has unveiled the EXE181 concept ahead of its public debut at Auto China 2024, set to be held from April 25 to May 5. The EV hypercar concept, the brand's first, is inspired by the EX181 land speed record car, which was designed for optimal aerodynamic efficiency.

  2. Has a drag coefficient of 0.181
  3. Goes from 0-100kph in 1.9 seconds

MG EXE181 concept: exterior design

The EXE181 concept gets a smooth-surfaced shell wrapped around a single-seat monocoque with as little bodywork as possible. Similar to the UFO-shaped EX181, the driver sits inside a centre bubble. The cockpit’s teardrop shape stretches out into a sloping tail fin, capable of raising from the car’s body to act as an airbrake when slowing down from high speeds. MG says that the EXE181 has a drag coefficient of just 0.181.

MG EXE181 concept: interior, specs, performance

On the inside, the concept gets a yoke-style steering wheel with a built-in touchscreen. While MG is yet to reveal specs, images suggest that the EXE181 has four motors – one for each wheel. The company did reveal that the hypercar can sprint from 0-100kph in just 1.9 seconds, hinting at a power output of over 1,000hp. For reference, the Rimac Nevera has a 0-100kph sprint time of 1.81 seconds, thanks to its four electric motors putting out combined 1,914hp.

MG hasn’t announced the top speed of the EXE181 concept either. However, it does hint that the model would surpass the EX181’s recorded top speed of 410kph; it achieved this speed and the land speed record in 1957.

MG EXE181 concept: launch, rivals

Still in concept form, the MG EXE181 looks at least a few years away from entering production. The EV hypercar will go up against the likes of Rimac Nevera, Aspark Owl and even the upcoming next-gen Tesla Roadster.
