MG Motor India has launched the Windsor EV in India, which is a crossover-style MPV based on the Wuling Cloud EV that's sold in Indonesia by SAIC. The Windsor is MG’s third EV in India, joining the likes of the Comet and ZS EV, and the first from its new partnership with JSW. Here are answers to some of the most popular queries about the new all-electric MG.
What exactly is the MG Windsor EV?
The Windsor EV is a badge-engineered version of the Wuling Cloud EV, similar to how the Comet is based on the Wuling Air EV from China. It can be best described as a cross between a large hatchback and an MPV, measuring 4,295mm in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase and a 186mm ground clearance. But while its stance and shape are like an MPV, it's only a 5-seater with two rows of seating.
How much does the MG Windsor cost?
The MG Windsor starts at Rs 13.5 lakh for the entry-level Excite variant, going up to Rs 15.5 lakh for the Essence variant. MG also offers a unique 'Battery as a Service' (BaaS) scheme.

What is the battery rental model on the MG Windsor?
MG is offering a unique battery rental model wherein the cost of the battery is not included in the car's price. Called the BaaS scheme, you pay just Rs 9.99 lakh for the Excite variant, and then pay Rs 3.5 per kilometre for the battery. However, MG hasn't announced prices of other variants under the BaaS scheme.
What is the interior of the MG Windsor EV like?
The Windsor EV is underpinned by a born-electric platform, so it makes full use of the space and packaging such architectures allow. It features a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen and a Comet EV-like digital instrument cluster, resulting in a minimalist design with few physical switches. It also gets a panoramic glass roof, which is a first for any mass-market car in India.
Other features on offer include 18-inch alloy wheels, full-LED lighting, a 135-degree reclining rear seat, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats, and more.
How much range does the MG Windsor EV offer?
The India-spec Windsor is equipped with a 38kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of 331km on a single charge. It is powered by a front axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 136hp and 200Nm.
