MG Motor India's newest EV, the Windsor, will make its debut in the country on September 11. While it is sold as the Cloud EV in markets such as Indonesia and a few others, the Indian model gets a new name.
- Windsor EV to be priced under Rs 20 lakh
- To face competition from Curvv EV, Nexon EV, XUV400
MG Windsor EV battery, range
The Windsor EV (Wuling Cloud EV) comes with two battery pack options abroad: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh, with claimed ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. It’s powered by a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 134hp. It is not yet known which version will be made available here.
MG Windsor EV design, features
Essentially a cross between a large hatchback and an MPV, the Windsor EV is about 4.3 metres long with a 2,700mm wheelbase. While its stance and shape resemble that of an MPV, it will be available with a 5-seat configuration only.
On the inside, the Windsor EV will get a large floating touchscreen with very few physical switch gears. MG also recently confirmed that it will offer rear AC vents, a three-passenger rear seat with dedicated three-point seat belts for all, a rear centre armrest, and faux leather seats with a large honeycomb pattern stitching. The rear seats will recline up to 135 degrees.
It will also get a panoramic glass roof, which is the first for any mass-market car in India. Unlike a conventional sunroof that opens up, the one in the MG Windsor is a fixed unit.
MG Windsor EV price, rivals
The MG Windsor EV will be priced under Rs 20 lakh and positioned right below the ZS EV in the company’s EV portfolio, serving as an alternative to Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, as well as the newly launched Tata Curvv EV.
