MG Motor India has been drip-feeding details about its upcoming Windsor EV, which will go on sale on September 11. The five-seat EV promises a spacious cabin with more focus on rear-seat comfort, thanks to its born-EV platform. In the latest teaser, the company has confirmed that the Windsor EV will come with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, among other features.
- 15.6-inch display expected in Windsor EV’s top variant only
- Windsor EV to get Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera
- It will likely have two battery pack options
MG Windsor EV: interior and features
In the mass market segment, the Windsor EV’s 15.6-inch infotainment screen will be second largest, next only to the much more expensive BYD Seal sedan. It will be loaded with features and serve as a display for HVAC controls and multiple other functions. The screen shown in the teaser displays range and battery status and confirms the presence of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and connected car tech, including the JioSaavn app.
The same display also seems to have controls for lights and turn indicators, as the control stalks mounted on the steering wheel column have the drive selector on the left and the wiper control function on the right. Below the screen are horizontally mounted air vents and the controls for the HVAC.
The Windsor’s steering wheel appears to be borrowed from the Comet, but it has more buttons, which could be for features such as cruise control. A second screen, measuring 8.8 inches, is positioned behind the steering wheel for instrumentation duties. While this, too, seems to be borrowed from the Comet, the graphics, user interface and fonts look different and easily legible, which isn’t the case with the Comet EV. The two-part dashboard features soft-touch materials on the top with unpolished wood and brushed aluminium inserts around the AC vents at the bottom.
Additional features include a large panoramic glass roof that will be static, reclining rear seats with centre armrests and rear AC vents. Sources say the Windsor will also get 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting – at least on the top variant, a powered tailgate, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera suite, ambient lighting and a few other features.
MG Windsor EV: expected battery range details
The Windsor EV comes with two battery pack options in Indonesia, where it is sold as Wuling Cloud EV: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh with claimed ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. A front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor good for 134hp powers the EV. We expect a similar setup for the India-bound Windsor as well.
MG Windsor EV: expected price, rivals
The Windsor EV is essentially a high-riding large hatchback, but it will take on the likes of the Nexon EV and lower variants of the Curvv EV in India. The model will be priced under Rs 20 lakh and positioned below the MG ZS EV in the brand’s India line-up.
