MG Motor India entered the Indian market earlier this year with the Hector and has already confirmed its second model for India, the MG ZS EV. While the all-electric SUV will be MG's first EV for India, now official documents have revealed that the ZS may also be offered in standard petrol and petrol-hybrid forms.

As per a Transport Department  circular, MG has received type approval for a petrol and hybrid model of the ZS, alongside the upcoming EV. The petrol unit is a 1.5-litre motor developing 106hp while the hybrid model is powered by a 111hp, 1.0-litre petrol-electric combination.

MG offers the same pair of motors in the ZS in international markets, with the 1.5-litre unit featuring natural aspiration while the 1.0-litre features turbocharging and direct injection technology.

In addition, the specifications mentioned on the document confirm that this is the pre-facelift MG ZS, and not the recently revealed faclift.

MG is set to launch the ZS EV in India in the coming months. The EV is expected to come equipped with a 44.5kWh battery pack, which is capable of going 262km of a single charge (on the WLTP test cycle), and comes paired with a 150hp electric motor. There is yet no information on if and when MG plans to launch the fossil fuel-powered iterations of the ZS SUV in India.
