Tata Motors has unveiled the 2021 Tigor EV powered by the company’s Ziptron EV powertrain technology. Unlike the previous version of the Tigor EV, which was mostly available to government and fleet operators, as well as the recently launched Xpres-T, the 2021 Tata Tigor EV is aimed at private buyers and is the second mass-market EV from Tata Motors after the Nexon EV. The Tigor EV is available for pre-booking either online or via Tata dealerships, and the new EV will be launched on August 31.

Tata Tigor EV: exterior design
The new EV is based on the internal combustion engine (ICE) Tigor facelift that was introduced last year. While it looks very similar to the ICE version, there are a few key differences.
The most notable difference is a new glossy black panel in place of the traditional grille, with an electric blue accent underlining the entire setup. The Tigor EV also gets blue highlights inside the headlamps and on the 15-inch alloy wheels, which also feature a new design.
Compared to the Xpres-T, which is also based on the facelifted model, the Tigor EV additionally gets projector headlamps along with revised fog lamp housing with LED DRLs integrated in the front bumper.
Tata Tigor EV: interior and features
On the inside, again, the interior design looks very similar to the standard Tigor. However, to differentiate the Tigor EV from its ICE-based sibling, it carries over the blue accents on the inside as well.
In terms of features, the Tigor EV gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4 speakers and 4 tweeters, iRA connected car tech, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, digital instrument cluster, and much more. In terms of safety features, the Tigor EV gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, seat belt reminder and more.
Tata Tigor EV: powertrain and charging
The biggest update for the 2021 Tigor EV is on the powertrain front, which now gets Tata’s Ziptron EV powertrain that the company debuted with the electric Nexon. The advanced Ziptron high-voltage architecture uses a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that produces 75hp and 170Nm of peak torque on the Tigor EV. This allows it to go from 0 to 60kph in 5.7 seconds.
Tata is offering a 26kWh Lithium-ion battery pack with the Tigor EV and the battery pack and electric motor also have an IP67 rating. With the new Ziptron tech, the Tigor EV is now compatible with fast charging. Using a fast charger, the Tigor EV can be topped up from 0 to 80 percent in just 60 minutes. Tata also offers an 8 year/ 1,60,000km battery and motor warranty.
Tata Tigor EV: expected price and rivals
The Tata Tigor EV Ziptron is likely to undercut the Nexon EV’s Rs 13.99-16.85 lakh price range and could cost about Rs 1.5-2 lakh more than the ICE-powered Tigor, which currently tops out at Rs 7.81 lakh.
This also means that the Tigor EV could be the most affordable EV available to private buyers in India. Tata Motors is already leading the EV race in the country and with the new electric Tigor, they could end up with a huge slice of the mass-market EV space. At this price, the Tigor EV does not have any direct rivals in the market.
