New BMW X3: powertrains
For the Indian market, BMW has opted for entry-level petrol and diesel powertrains. The X3 20 xDrive, which has a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a mild-hybrid system, puts out 208hp and 330Nm of torque. This helps it sprint to 100kph in a claimed 7.8 seconds, and go on to a top speed of 215kph. The 20d xDrive is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel with a mild-hybrid system developing a combined 197hp and 400Nm of peak torque. The entry-level diesel accelerates from 0-100kph in 7.7 seconds. Both engine options get AWD and an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard.
New BMW X3: exterior, interior highlights
BMW took the wraps off the fourth-gen X3 in June this year, and it clearly takes some inspiration from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, while also sharing some design elements with the latest-gen X1. Overall, the new SUV sports a smoother and swoopier design compared to its more upright predecessor, though the signature BMW ‘kidney grille’ is as bold as ever, and gets LED illumination. 18-inch alloy wheels are expected on the India-spec X3.
As before, the X3 will continue to rival the Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5 in India.
