One of BMW India’s first new car launches this year will be the third-generation X6. BMW has begun accepting bookings for the SUV-coupe before prices are announced in the coming weeks. Expect prices for the Audi Q8 and Porsche Cayenne Coupe rival to be in the Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom) region.
BMW has already updated its India website with information regarding the new-gen X6, revealing that it will be available in two trims – xLine and M Sport. The former comes with black cladding on the front and rear fenders and sports more chrome elements while the latter gets gloss back bits replacing the chrome ones, along with different alloy wheel designs.
The interiors of the new X6 will feel familiar to those who have seen the X5 – the overall design is quite similar and there is a lot of overlap in terms of the equipment on offer, like the high-definition digital displays for the instruments and infotainment system. As is standard with models in this price bracket, there are virtually tonnes of customisation options available, with dealer sources saying that up to Rs 8 lakh worth of options can be specced.
While all engine options have yet to be confirmed – both petrol and diesel units are expected – the X6 will come in M40i-spec, which means it will be powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that develops 340hp and 450Nm of torque. The international model also gets a 530hp, 4.4-litre V8 petrol (M50i); a 400hp, 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel (M50d); and a 265hp, 3.0-litre diesel (xDrive30d) options. All engines come with an 8-speed automatic sending power to all-four wheels as standard.
BMW India had the previous-gen X6 on sale for a while though had discontinued the model just a few months ago. It was on sale in xDrive35i M Sport form and was priced at Rs 92.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
