BMW has launched the new X6 at Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom, India). The new SUV is available only in the xDrive40d variant and gets the M Sport package as standard.
The new X6 gets revised exterior and interior styling and has grown in size over its predecessor. However, the overall wheelbase has now shrunk by 2mm to 1,933mm.
In terms of styling, on the outside, there's a new, heavily sculpted front bumper with high-set fog lamps, a faux skid plate and prominent air-vents with chrome garnish. The headlamps are all-new units and merge neatly with the new, more prominent grille. The new X6 M Sport rides on 19-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the tail-lamps have been revised and the rear bumper is now more sculpted and gets black cladding with twin rectangular exhausts incorporated.
Inside, the new BMW SUV gets a leather-wrapped M steering wheel, individual headliner, M badged door sills, paddle shifters, a Harman Kardon sound system, heads-up display and a choice of four interior trims.
In terms of safety, the new X6 is equipped with six airbags, stability control, traction control and hill descent control.
The new X6 is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine developing 308.7bhp and 64.24kgm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. BMW claims that the X6 can do a 0-100kph sprint in 5.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 240kph.
Although the outgoing car had no direct rival in the Indian market, this second-generation X6 will lock horns with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé, expected to arrive on Indian shores soon.
