  • The Bronco was a part of Ford’s line-up from 1966-1996
  • New Bronco range will comprise two SUVs
  • Both Bronco SUVs will share underpinnings with other Ford models

Ford has released a teaser confirming a July 2020 unveil for the reborn Bronco. Easily one of Ford’s most awaited new products, the Bronco has been spied on multiple occasions in the run up to its official unveil. Here’s all there is to know about Ford’ new SUV.

What is the Ford Bronco?

One of Ford’s best known SUVs, the Bronco was part of the carmaker’s US line-up from 1966 to 1996. Identifiable by its three-door layout, the original gen 1 Bronco was also sold in two-door and roadster body styles.

Ford’s reborn Bronco range will consist of two SUVs. The smaller Bronco Sport will use the underpinnings of the Ford Escape SUV while the larger Bronco will share its platform with the Ford Ranger and Everest (Endeavour in India), and will be offered in three-door and five-door versions. Both models will feature a boxy, retro design that will pay homage to the older Bronco.

What engines will power the new Bronco?

Ford hasn’t officially announced any technical details about either version of the upcoming Bronco. However, the Bronco Sport is expected to be powered by the same engines offered on the Ford Escape, namely a 150hp, 1.5-litre petrol and a 250hp, 2.0-litre petrol EcoBoost engine.

The larger Ford Bronco will likely get the Ranger’s 274hp/420Nm, 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol unit, and a 330hp/542Nm, 2.7-litre, V6 turbo-petrol engine. There is also a possibility of a more powerful Raptor version of the Bronco down the line.

What other features will the new Bronco have?

Details regarding the features of the Bronco SUVs are sparse, though the larger Bronco is expected to features removable doors and roof panels ala the Jeep Wrangler. Not much else is known about the Bronco’s features, though, it is safe to expect modern convenience features like touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and more.

Will the Bronco come to India?

Ford has made no announcements regarding plans to bring the new Bronco to India. And it’s unlikely the model will be in consideration for India either. Ford India’s SUV line-up will, however, expand with a new SUV that is being jointly developed with Mahindra.
