Hyundai’s new Corolla-challenger, the Elantra, is all set to return to our shores this September. Autocar India reader Charan Kumar sent us these spy shots of the Elantra being tested in south India.
The new Elantra’s design is contemporary Hyundai with smooth lines and lend the car an aggressive look. The interiors are equally attractive with a striking fascia that is dominated by a multimedia screen.
The new Elantra will come with a 147bhp, 1.8-litre petrol and a new 1.8-litre diesel. Prime competitors include the Skoda Laura, Volkswagen Jetta and the Renault Fluence and Chevrolet Cruze.
The previous Elantra didn’t sell well mainly due to its unattractive design, but the fluidic-designed Verna became popular and is currently the best-selling car in its segment. This gives Hyundai reason to hope the new Elantra, which uses the same design language as the Verna and the new Sonata, will be equally well received.
