The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio’s launch has been delayed to early 2021. It was originally slated to launch in India around Diwali 2020.
- New Maruti Celerio launch postponed due to delay by suppliers.
- Second-gen Celerio will feature new exterior and interior design
- Expected to come with two petrol engine options – 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre
As per our sources, the main reason for postponing the launch of the next-gen Celerio (code name: Suzuki YNC) is the delay from the suppliers’ end.
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio design and platform
As the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio will receive a generation change and is not just a facelift, it will come with refreshed exterior styling, in line with the brand’s current design language.
Even the interiors of the new Celerio will be updated. The Celerio’s cabin is expected to get a new layout, and also new features like the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system on higher variants.
The second-gen Celerio will also use the same Maruti Suzuki ‘Heartect’ platform as the current-gen Wagon R. We also expect the new Celerio to grow in size, with a longer wheelbase and a wider cabin, when compared to the current-gen car.
As of now, there are not many details available about the next-gen Celerio, but we expect more information to surface closer to its launch.
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio engine
Maruti Suzuki is slated to offer the new Celerio with two engine options, just like it does with the Wagon R. We expect that, in addition to the 68hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, the new Celerio will also get the more powerful 83hp, 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine. The model is also likely to continue with both gearbox options, the 5-speed manual and the AMT automatic.
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio rivals
The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio will continue to take on rivals from the budget hatchback segment, like the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Santro. Although, the version of the Celerio equipped with the more powerful engine may even challenge models like the Hyundai Grand i10.
