The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLS will go on sale in India on June 17, 2020, Martin Schwenk, CEO and MD of Mercedes-Benz India, has announced via social media. Here’s a quick recap of the GLS’s details.
The GLS is Merc’s largest SUV
Measuring over 5m in length, the GLS is Merc’s biggest SUV and sits at the top of the carmaker’s monocoque-bodied SUV range. Large size aside, the GLS also stands out for its upright shape though styling is new-age Mercedes. The latest GLS is not much larger than the previous-gen model but an increase in wheelbase promises more legroom for second and third-row occupants.
The GLS will be big on tech
The GLS will not only be big on space but will also be big on tech. A 12.3-inch digital instrument display, Mercedes’ new MBUX infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen interface, a new steering wheel with touchpads, and a touchpad on the centre console are just some of the goodies inside. Adjustable air suspension and auto parking are other tech features on board.
GLS in petrol and diesel avatar
The new GLS will likely be offered with a 3.0-litre petrol engine making 367hp and 500Nm of torque. However, the mainstay of the range will be the 286hp/600Nm, 3.0-litre diesel unit. A 9-speed automatic will be standard as will Merc’s all-wheel-drive system.
New GLS price
The latest GLS is likely to breach the Rs 1 crore barrier with petrol versions expected to be pricier still. The GLS will go up against BMW’s own XL-sized three-row SUV, the X7.
