The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is possibly the brand’s most important launch in India this year. Slated to go on sale in the coming months, the new-gen LWB sedan is being tested in India, and dealer sources can now confirm that official bookings will open next month. We reached out to Mercedes-Benz India for this but the brand delinced to comment.

  1. New E-Class to launch before end of 2024
  2. Will come with petrol and diesel engine options
  3. Will be a direct rival to the recently launched 5 Series LWB

New Mercedes E-Class LWB India details

Production of the outgoing E-Class ended a few months ago, but dealers say that they still have inventory left. A handful of dealers also confirmed that, until now, they were accepting bookings of the new E-Class unofficially as a few customers wanted to wait for the new-gen car. Series production of the new E-Class commenced recently.

The E-Class is sold in LWB form in just two markets – India and China – and ours is the only market where it's sold in RHD form. The LHD E-Class LWB sold in China gets only petrol powertrains, but the Indian version will have both petrol and diesel engine options.

The new E-Class LWB was revealed in China a few months ago, so the car headed here will look similar, albeit with some country-specific changes. There will be two design themes for the grille – a sporty one with the three-pointed star in the centre, and a traditional one with a smaller logo on the bonnet.

New Mercedes E-Class LWB interior, features

On the inside, the new E-Class gets a multi-screen layout, which includes a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 12.3-inch screen for the passenger (which could come on some higher variants), and a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster. It will continue to have a plethora of creature comforts and even get a reclining rear seat – something the India-spec BMW 5 Series LWB doesn't.

We've driven the Mercedes E-Class LWB in LHD form, which you can read about in our latest issue that's out on stands now.

Apart from the new E-Class LWB, Mercedes-Benz India has also lined up launches of the electric G-Class, the updated AMG GT, and the Maybach EQS SUV.
