German carmaker Porsche showcased the Macan SUV at the LA show this year. With this new mid-size 4WD car, the company is looking to appeal to a cross section of buyers -- both enthusiasts and families. It is part of Porsche's plan to boost its annual sales beyond the 2,00,000-mark.
The Macan line-up, at launch, will comprise the Macan Turbo, Macan S and Macan Diesel S. All models will be equipped with six-cylinder motors mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.
While the petrol units are a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V6 good for 394.5bhp and a 3.0-litre V6 good for 335bhp, the diesel unit is an Audi-sourced 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel that makes 254bhp. The manufacturer is reportedly also planning further two engines in 2015 -- a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel.
The Macan is based on the same platform as the Audi Q5, sharing a similar high-strength steel floorpan, bulkheads and body structure, and several driveline, chassis and electrical components.
The Macan will be manufactured at Porsche's Leipzig facility.
