Toyota India will announce prices for the new, ninth-generation Camry on December 11. The new sedan, which debuted globally in late 2023, sports a fresh design inside out, gets more features and comes with a petrol-hybrid powertrain only. This will replace the outgoing car which has been on sale in India since 2019 and received a mid-life update in 2022.

  1. New Camry gets new design inside out
  2. Continues to sit on the TNGA-K platform
  3. Deliveries expected to start next year

New Toyota Camry exterior design

The latest-generation Camry sticks to the tried-and-tested formula of its predecessors. While the exterior design is all-new, it continues to sit on the modular TNGA-K platform of the outgoing model. This platform is widely used in a number of Toyota and Lexus cars and SUVs globally.

When it comes to design, the new car is clearly an evolution of the one currently on sale here. It is marginally longer, but has the same wheelbase as the current one. The face of the new Camry looks a lot Lexus-like, especially the chin, which has that typical anvil shape. The use of modern lighting also means the headlight pods are compact, with LED Daytime Running Lights adding plenty of much-needed character. Around the side, Toyota has provided for more defining lines and the large tail-lights at the rear are replaced by ‘C’-shaped units.

New Toyota Camry interior and features

Meanwhile, the new Camry's interior sees a major revamp with a completely new dashboard layout replete with two digital screens. The instrumentation is relayed via a 7-inch screen, and infotainment duties are done via a floating 12.3-inch touchscreen setup. It is also expected to come with a JBL sound system, heads-up display, a digital key, and a few other tech-related features.

The new Camry, like the outgoing model, will be aimed at chauffer-driven buyers, especially for markets like India. The rear seat gets a recline function and comes with ventilation, and the control for the blinds and other features are placed in between the seats. It will also come with Toyota Safety Sense bundle, which includes ADAS features such as dynamic radar cruise control with curve speed reduction, lane departure alert with steering assist, and a pre-collision braking system.

New Toyota Camry powertrain, specs

The new Camry will come with the  2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine, paired with two electric motors with a combined output of 227hp. Just like many other Toyota hybrids, an eCVT gearbox does the shifting duties for the Camry’s hybrid powertrain. The new Camry is expected to deliver greater efficiency of around 25kpl (claimed), up from 19.1kpl for the outgoing model.

Toyota will locally assemble the new Camry from imported kits at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka. While the Japanese brand will announce prices for the new Camry next month, we are told that deliveries will start only next year. The car will also be on display at Toyota’s stall at the upcoming Bharat Mobility show in January.
