The new, 11th generation Toyota Corolla Altis made its Indian debut at the 2014 Auto Expo, and has now had its official launch in our market. The new Altis starts from Rs 11.99 lakh for the base petrol J (S) manual, going up to Rs 16.89 lakh for the fully loaded VL (CVT) petrol automatic, with diesel models slotted in between as well (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
Toyota dealers had started accepting bookings for the new Corolla Altis in March with a deposit of Rs 50,000, and deliveries are scheduled to commence now that the car has been launched.
The new Altis features far more striking styling than its predecessor, with many details borrowed from the Camry and the Furia concept car shown in Detroit in 2013. The interiors too have been given a significant update, with a more generous equipment list as well.
At 4,620mm in length, 1,776mm in width and 1,475mm in height, the new Toyota Corolla Altis is longer and wider than before. Its 2,700mm wheelbase is a whole 100mm longer too, liberating much greater legroom for rear seat passengers.
The new Corolla uses the same 138bhp, 1,798cc petrol and 87bhp, 1,364cc diesel engines as the previous car. Both engines get six-speed manual gearboxes, although the petrol can be had with a seven-step CVT automatic gearbox as well.
With the new Altis, customers can expect the same hassle-free ownership experience and reliability as before, albeit in a more attractive, spacious and better equipped package.
