After several camouflaged spy pictures of the Toyota Innova Hycross, undisguised images of the MPV have surfaced, revealing its front end and profile. The Innova Hycross is just over two weeks away from its India debut, which will take place on November 25. However, before the India debut, the Toyota MPV will be shown in Indonesia where it will go on sale as the ‘Innova Zenix’.
- Innova Hycross will be slightly larger than Innova Crysta
- Will get strong hybrid powertrain and no diesel
- Price announcement likely at Auto Expo 2023
New Toyota Innova Hycross exterior: what do the pictures reveal?
The pictures give us our first clear look at the Toyota Innova Hycross. The new MPV's front design seems like an evolution over the Innova Crysta. It features an upright cowling, a V-shaped bonnet, and a wide, trapezoidal grille with chrome surrounds on the lower part, flanked by high-mounted headlamps. What catches your eye are the front bumper and chin, where designers have combined the fog lamp housings and air dams into a single, rather unique-looking unit.
At the sides, the new Hycross features a prominent shoulder line and a strong crease over the rear door and the fenders. The 3D design renders, along with the latest spy pictures of the India-spec model, reveal that the Innova Hycross will get a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of dimensions, the Innova Hycross will measure 4.7m in length and will have a wheelbase of 2,850mm, which is slightly larger than the Innova Crysta.
New Toyota Innova Hycross: interior and features
Another set of spy pictures revealed recently gave a sneak peek at the Hycross’ interior. It will feature a multi-layered dashboard and certain elements like the centre console, the steering wheel and the instrument cluster seem like they have been borrowed from the latest-gen Voxy MPV that is sold in some international markets. The pictures also revealed a large touchscreen infotainment system and a separate panel for climate control, likely equipped with touch-sensitive HVAC controls.
In terms of equipment, Toyota is likely to load the MPV with goodies like a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and an ‘ottoman function’ for the second-row captain's chairs for added comfort.
Toyota Innova Hycross: chassis and powertrain
For the first time, the Innova Hycross will be based on monocoque architecture with a front-wheel-drive layout; all previous iterations of the MPV had a ladder-frame construction and a rear-wheel-drive layout. The new Innova Hycross will also lose the diesel powertrain and will be available only with a naturally aspirated petrol and a strong hybrid powertrain with the 2.0-litre engine.
Toyota Innova Hycross: price announcement in January
The new Innova Hycross will debut in India on November 25, and Toyota is expected to announce the prices at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023, which starts on January 13. The Hycross will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta, which is currently available only with the 166hp, 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
A few months after the Innova Hycross’ entry into the Indian market, we will also see a Maruti Suzuki derivative that will be sold via the premium Nexa chain. It will be the first Toyota product sold by Maruti Suzuki.
