The current-gen Hyundai i20 has been on sale since 2014 and received a mid-cycle update in 2017. The model is likely to receive a next-gen iteration sometime in mid-2020. Some of the highlights of Hyundai’s premium hatchback include its refinement and a rather long equipment list.
The current Hyundai i20 sees competition from only two models, the Honda Jazz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. However, things might change with the next-gen car as it will see an additional rival in the form of the upcoming Tata X45 premium hatchback.
Tata Motors is slowly gaining a reputation for premium quality interiors and feature-laden variants. With the next-gen car Hyundai will aim to go a step further by providing more space on the inside, improved cabin insulation and give the hatchback even more features. Expect Hyundai to equip the new i20 with an even better touchscreen interface and a sunroof on higher trims.
Expect the Hyundai to continue with the same engine options seen on the current car – the 90hp, 1.4-litre diesel and the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol. Both engines will be upgraded to BS-VI norms that will kick in by April 2020.
