It was just days back that Skoda released official design sketches of the new Octavia. While the new-gen sedan is slated to be revealed on November 11, 2019, a new image has leaked online that confirm a number of design details.
As shown by the previously revealed sketches, the leaked image reveals the next-gen executive sedan has the same design cues as the Skoda Superb. Gone is the split-headlamp setup – it’s been replaced by sleeker single piece units that flank a more prominent grille. The nose gets a sporty bumper with prominent air vents. The new Octavia gets a prominent shoulder line seemingly running the length of the car, with a second character line running along the lower doors between the wheel arches.
While the cabin has yet to be revealed, images from test mules have hinted at a completely overhauled interior with a design that takes inspiration from the Vision X concept that was on display at the 2018 Geneva motor show. The all-new Octavia’s interior is expected to feature a minimalist design, with a new touchscreen infotainment system atop the centre console.
The new Octavia will be underpinned by the latest version of the VW Group’s MQB platform, which means it is expected to be larger and more spacious than its predecessor. Under the hood, it is expected to come with a choice of turbo-petrol and diesel engines, along with mild-hybrid technology.
While it will be revealed next month and go on sale in international markets in early 2020, the new Octavia is expected to launch in India sometime late next year, and is likely to arrive with only petrol engines. Gearbox options are likely to include a choice of manual and DSG automatic units, as with the Octavia currently on sale.
Under its India 2.0 plan, Skoda is readying two new models that will be based on the highly localised MQB A0-IN platform – the India-spec Kamiq SUV and the next-gen Rapid midsize sedan – the former is expected before the end of next year while the latter is expected to arrive by 2021.
