Volkswagen has released a new teaser image of its next-generation Jetta sedan, before the model is officially revealed at the upcoming North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) held in Detroit in January 2018.
The new teaser clearly displays the VW Aerton derived design in side profile. The older teaser provided hints of the front and side of the MQB-based Jetta, suggesting a new face with a more prominent grille. The overall design of the new sedan is similar to the Jetta that was spied in October this year.
Following confirmation from Volkswagen North America CEO Hinrich Woebcken, the teaser that was posted reasserted that the 2019 Jetta will appear in Detroit on January 18, 2018. He had also stated that the new car will be “super modern” and have an “emotional” design with coupe-like styling.
While engine and transmission details have yet to be confirmed, the 2019 Jetta is expected to share its powertrain with the VW Tiguan SUV, including a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol in various states of tune, and also a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
In India, VW had launched the PQ35 platform-based sixth-gen model in 2011 and had introduced a facelift in early 2015. The older Jetta has been recently discontinued in the country and as we had reported earlier, the seventh-gen model is unlikely to come to India as VW is not expected to produce the sedan for right-hand-drive markets like South Africa, India and the UK.
