Nissan India today announced that prices of its passenger vehicles under the Nissan and Datsun brands would be hiked by as much as Rs 30,000 effective January 2017. Nissan said the decision to raise prices had been taken following a rise in input costs.

The carmaker joins companies such as Tata Motors, Toyota and Renault that are raising prices starting next year. More automakers are likely to follow suit in the next few days.

The hike in prices could be detrimental to demand for vehicles under Nissan and Datsun range, which have seen a mixed response recently. Sales of the Micra and Go have been on an uptick over the past few months, thanks to the demand from the commercial segment, while the Redigo and the Go+ have lost a bit of ground recently.

Nevertheless, on a year-on-year basis, the carmaker has seen positive growth. Domestic sales grew over 51 percent in November at 3,975 vehicles as against 2,617 units sold in the same month a year ago.
