The Renault Captur hasn’t been a roaring success for the French brand. A rival to the Maruti S-cross and Hyundai Creta, Renault dealers are offering massive discounts on the on-road price of 2018 models. While ex-showroom prices are unchanged, the reduction in the price tag comes offering free insurance and warranty, among other incentives. This offer is valid across all seven variants of the Captur.
The base petrol Captur RXE trim, which retailed at Rs 12.23 lakh earlier, can now be bought at Rs 10.86 lakh, representing a drop of about Rs 1.37 lakh. Prices of the top-spec diesel variant, the Captur Platine Dual Tone, are a whopping Rs 2.58 lakh lower; the discount sees the on-road, Mumbai, price drop from Rs 17.16 lakh to Rs 14.58 lakh.
Available with three petrol variants (powered by a 106hp, 1.5-litre engine) and four diesel trims (110hp, 1.5-litre unit), the Captur only gets manual transmission options. The stylish SUV’s USPs include refinement, ride quality and tough build quality.
In the Indian market, the Captur hasn’t really set the sales charts on fire – its sales during the December 2017-Novmber 2018 period stood at 2,912 units. In comparison, the Hyundai Creta, which is the current segment leader, sold 36,373 units. The Captur is also set to get new rivals in the form of the Nissan Kicks and the Tata Harrier. It remains to be seen if the price drop helps Renault showrooms with their sales figures.
