Polaris has just launched its first road-legal offering – the Sportsman 570 – at a special introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakh, which will later go up to Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In order to make the Sportsman 570 road-legal, Polaris has categorised it as a tractor and aimed it towards agricultural sector users.

While the vehicle does resemble an all terrain vehicle (ATV), it can be fitted with farming equipment like pesticide sprayer, cultivator, disc harrow and utility cart. Polaris has also given the Sportsman 570 a backrest for the pillion.

Mechanically, the Sportsman 570 comes equipped with a 567cc, 4-stroke engine that is good for 34hp. Additionally, the ATV also features an electronic fuel-injection system, a four-wheel-drive (4WD) layout and 280mm of ground clearance. Polaris also offers road-side assistance (RSA) and one year extended warranty.

Sources in Polaris have said that in order for the Sportsman 570 to be classified as a tractor, they have adhered to current norms for tractors in India - one of them being having an electronically limited speed of 60 kph. Thus, currently the Sportsman can be used on any roads as long as it follows all the restrictions in place for tractors.
