Latest sightings of the new Rolls-Royce SUV suggest it is in the advanced stages of development. Though the car is yet to have an official name, it is referred to as ‘Project Cullinan”. The new SUV is poised to be the first all-wheel-drive car from Rolls-Royce.
The Cullinan will likely use a developed version of the Phantom’s 6.8-litre, V12 engine. A plug-in hybrid powertrain could also be offered at a later stage, using technology from its parent company, the BMW Group. Rolls-Royce has dismissed the idea of a diesel variant.
The carmaker has described its future model as an ‘all-terrain, high-sided vehicle’. Other Rolls-Royce models will also use the steel architectonics of the Cullinan from 2018. Its boxy design resembles Rolls-Royce's flagship Phantom rather than the Ghost.
Rolls-Royce is expected to launch its latest SUV internationally in 2018 and will lock horns with Bentley Bentayga in the premium luxury SUV segment. There’s no confirmation yet if and when it will come to India.
