We recently brought you details of the exterior design of the upcoming Tata Nexon facelift via a computer-generated image, and now, ahead of its September launch, we have pictures of the interior as well. Just like the exterior, the interior, too, has been comprehensively updated with a new design and upgraded technology, so let’s take a closer look.

  1. Nexon facelift interior inspired by the Curvv concept
  2. HVAC controls are now operated via a touch-based panel
  3. New two-spoke steering wheel gets backlit Tata logo

The interior of the Nexon facelift bears a close resemblance to that of the Curvv concept, especially with the new touchscreen setup and two-spoke steering wheel. The overall look is also a lot cleaner now, thanks to smoother lines, flat surfaces and reduced use of physical controls.

Taking centre stage is a floating 10.25-inch touchscreen, although it's not entirely new to the Nexon range – the Nexon EV Max Dark Edition launched earlier this year was the first to get it. The larger infotainment is a vast improvement over the outgoing 7.0-inch unit and gets an upgraded user interface and far better graphics. However, the 7.0-inch screen will be retained for the lower trims.

The other screen of interest is an all-new full-digital instrument cluster, although this is not exactly a novelty in this segment – the likes of the VenueMagnite and Kiger already get it. Another big change is the new two-spoke steering wheel, which gets a new set of haptic buttons and toggle switches, and a backlit Tata logo at the centre.

You’ll also notice an all-new centre console, which gets Tata’s new patented touch-based HVAC control panel – a feature you can expect to see in future Tata models. This panel features two toggle switches – assumably for temperature and blower controls – but most other functions are relegated to two rows of haptic touch buttons. Such touch-based panels can typically be unintuitive to use, so it remains to be seen how well Tata Motors has done.

Meanwhile, the dashboard continues to get a dual-tone, textured finish, but the trapezoidal AC vents are a lot slimmer now. New storage areas have been carved out in the centre console, but the rotary drive mode selector has been retained as has the manual handbrake. The door panels too are the same as before.

Tata Nexon facelift engine, gearbox options

Despite comprehensive exterior and interior updates, mechanically, the Nexon facelift is expected to remain unchanged. It will carry over the 120hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as well as the 115hp 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both engines will continue to be mated to manual and AMT gearboxes, and a new DCT gearbox is also expected to join the line-up.

Tata Nexon facelift launch timeline, rivals

As we've reported before, the Tata Nexon will be launched by mid-September, and with the extensive raft of updates it receives, we expect the prices to be bumped up as well. The SUV has plenty of rivals in this category, including the Maruti Suzuki BrezzaHyundai VenueRenault KigerNissan MagniteKia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300, with the latter two also due for updates very soon.
