EXCLUSIVE!
Skoda is set to launch the Superb Sportline in India around October 15, 2018. Essentially a sportier-looking version of the company flagship sedan, the Skoda Superb Sportline comes with sharper styling – a black exterior treatment, and a bright red paintjob.
Bookings for the Sportline have unofficially opened, with dealers accepting Rs 50,000 as an initial booking amount. The Superb Sportline will be priced between the base Style trim and the top-spec Lauren & Klement variant.
Mechanically, the Superb Sportline is expected to continue running the current model’s engine and transmission set-up. There is a 1.8-litre, TSI petrol engine making 180hp and 320Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel motor that produces 177hp and 350Nm of peak torque. The petrol model gets 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission options; meanwhile, the diesel variant gets a 6-speed DSG unit as standard.
The Sportline comes with a blacked-out exterior package which replaces all of the Superb’s chrome elements, adding to its sporty appeal. Up front, the grille and headlamp inserts are finished in gloss-black. The car also gets mirror caps, side skirts and a boot-lid spoiler – all in the same gloss-black finish. Additionally, a set of 19-inch, gloss-black finish alloy wheels will also be on offer.
Inside the cabin, the Superb Sportline gets an all-black treatment with a contrasting red stitching. The car is fitted with new sporty seats with Alcantara inserts, aluminium pedals, and some carbon-fibre trimming on the dash to complete the package.
Skoda India recently sold out its Octavia RS model and hence the Sportline comes at an apt time to cash in on the gap left by the performance-oriented sedan in its product line-up. The Skoda Superb range starts from Rs 25.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and competes against the Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry Hybrid and Honda Accord Hybrid.
