Tata Motors has released a teaser for the Altroz Racer, which is slated for launch next month. This sportier version of Tata’s premium hatchback will get a more powerful engine, a unique exterior finish, and more equipment than the standard Altroz.

  1. Tata Altroz Racer to sport dual-tone theme and racing stripes
  2. To get 120hp turbo-petrol engine and more creature comforts
  3. Likely to come with 6-speed manual gearbox only

The teaser confirms that the Tata Altroz Racer will have a unique orange and black dual-tone exterior finish. The black trim won’t be limited to the roof, wing mirrors and window line as seen in the standard dual-tone Altroz; in Racer, it will also cover the pillars. However, the 16-inch alloys are the same as the standard model.

Earlier, spy shots revealed that the Altroz Racer will get white racing stripes on the bonnet, just like the car showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The model is also expected to sport ‘Racer’ badges and a slightly refreshed grille.

The Altroz Racer’s cabin will likely get cosmetic changes that reflect its sportier exterior. These include highlights on the dashboard and new upholstery. Tata is also expected to equip the Racer with more features than the standard Altroz: a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, segment-first ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display, and a voice-assisted sunroof could be added.

Unlike the standard Altroz iTurbo, which is powered by a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Racer will have the Nexon’s 120hp, 1.2-litre unit, making it 10hp and 30Nm more powerful. That will also put it in direct competition with the Hyundai i20 N Line, which has a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 120hp and 172Nm. Tata is expected to offer the Racer with only a 6-speed manual transmission.

Expect the Altroz Racer to be priced higher than the iTurbo, which falls in the Rs 9.20 lakh–10.10 lakh range. That would pit it against the i20 N Line, which costs Rs 10 lakh–11.42 lakh for the manual variants and Rs 11.15 lakh–12.52 lakh for the automatic trims. The Maruti Fronx (Rs 9.73 lakh–12.86 lakh) and Toyota Taisor (Rs 10.56 lakh–12.88 lakh) with their 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines will also rival the Altroz Racer.
