The Tata Curvv is undoubtedly the brand’s next big launch, and as the date of its arrival nears, more information about the upcoming rival to the vast sea of midsize SUVs – the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and Honda Elevate – is coming to the surface.

The Curvv diesel that was displayed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 was production-ready, and as such, a lot can be gleaned by looking at the images closely. One major reveal is that the Curvv’s interior shares a lot with the Nexon.

  1. Tata Curvv dash and screens borrowed from Nexon
  2. Features list also seems to overlap
  3. Curvv dimensions similar to Nexon, hinting at commonality of platform

What can be seen from the image of the Curvv's interior is that the three-tone, multi-layer dashboard seems near-identical to the one seen in the Nexon. The steering, meanwhile, seems to be the Harriert's unit. Even the placement of the 10.25-inch screens – one for infotainment and the other for the driver display – is quite similar. A lot of the switchgear and the buttons also seem to be shared between Tata’s compact SUV and midsize SUV.

While the image doesn’t show the automatic climate control system, it’ll almost certainly be available. In addition, powered ORVMs, steering-mounted controls for the infotainment system and cruise control, push-button start, tweeters on the A-pillars (likely for an 8-speaker Harman or JBL system) and a wireless smartphone charging pad are also highly likely to be seen on range-topping versions of the Curvv. One of the exterior images also shows that the Curvv will get a sunroof, though it’s unlikely to be a panoramic unit.

In terms of safety kit, what can be seen on the Curvv include rear disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree cameras, a blind-spot monitor, and a rear wash wipe that’s hidden in the rear spoiler area. As Tata Motors is already looking at achieving a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for its line-up, and six airbags is necessary for that score, the Curvv is almost certainly going to get front, side and curtain airbags. ESC, hill-hold assist, a tyre pressure monitor and an air purifier are also expected with top-spec versions of the Curvv. Although ADAS tech can't be seen on the model displayed, Tata may offer it on the Curvv to keep up with the Creta and Seltos, both of which have a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Tata Curvv vs Nexon: dimensions
CurvvNexon
Length4308mm3994mm
Width1810mm1804mm
Height1630mm1620mm
Wheelbase2560mm2498mm

While the Curvv is definitely larger overall than the Nexon – it is 313mm longer and has a wheelbase that’s 62mm longer as well – the SUVs’ widths are just millimetres apart. This aspect, along with the fact that the Nexon’s dashboard and odds and ends fit perfectly in the Curvv, indicates that the two SUVs share a lot under the skin as well.

In addition, the Curvv will come with a diesel option, and this 115hp, 1.5-litre engine and its 6-speed manual come from the Nexon. As we have reported, one can expect the Nexon’s 6-speed AMT to be carried over to the Curvv.

Considering the heightened competition in this segment, Tata does have its work cut out for it. On the other hand, the Indian company seems to have ensured that the Curvv has been developed in the most cost-effective manner possible, which should mean a competitive price point as well. Only time will tell.
