Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Hexa around the festive season this October. The crossover will sit at the top of Tata’s model line-up and will compete with the Mahindra XUV500. The Hexa could be launched in three variants and sources tell us that it will be priced at par with the XUV500. You can expect the Hexa range to start at about Rs 12.5 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom, Delhi).
In keeping with the Hexa’s premium positioning, Tata is expected to load the model with lots of equipment, with top-end versions likely to feature a touchscreen infotainment system, a JBL-developed sound system, a reverse camera, leather seats, cruise control, ESP and six airbags.
Powering the Hexa will be Tata’s 2.2-litre diesel engine that makes 156hp and 400Nm of torque. This engine will be offered with a choice of two gearboxes – a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. The Hexa will also feature selectable driving modes that alter engine characteristics at the twist of a rotary controller. The system will even prime the car’s off-road functions on versions with the optional all-wheel-drive system.
Based on the slow-selling Aria’s X2 platform, the Hexa is virtually an all-new product thanks to its
vastly different styling and more luxury-oriented interiors. It got its first public showing at the 2015 Geneva motorshow and was also displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.
