Tata Motors has increased the prices of the Nexon EV, across the range, by Rs 25,000. The Tata Nexon EV now ranges between Rs 14.54 lakh-17.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Notably, this price hike comes just ahead of long-range Nexon EV’s launch that’s likely to go on sale in the coming months.

Tata Nexon EV: price hike and incentives
At the beginning of the year, MG Motor had increased prices of the outgoing ZS EV, just a couple of months before the launch of its facelift. This, of course, reduces the mark up in price with the new model.
Tata Motors, too, could be adopting a similar approach ahead of the long-range Nexon EV’s launch. The updated model will come with a larger 40kWh battery pack and will be pricier than the current model. It has already been spied testing on our roads on a couple of occasions.
The Nexon EV is currently available in five variants – XM, XZ+, XZ+ Lux, XZ+ Dark and XZ+ Lux Dark. While all variants see a price hike, our dealer sources have confirmed that the base XM and XZ+ variants qualify for subsidies under Maharashtra’s EV policy. Buyers of the Nexon EV can avail benefits up to Rs 2.5 lakh, including an early bird incentive of Rs 1 lakh, although that’s only valid till March 31, 2022. This, of course, is over and above the incentives offered by the central government.
The Tata Nexon EV is powered by a permanent magnet motor that puts out a maximum of 129hp and 245Nm of torque. It currently draws power from a 30.2kWh battery pack.
Long-range Nexon EV to be sold alongside current model
Given the larger battery pack, the long-range Nexon EV is expected to be about Rs 3 lakh-4 lakh costlier than the current version of the electric. Tata Motors wouldn’t want to lose out on the Nexon EV’s biggest USP, which is its price-to-range ratio. With a real-world range of around 200km, the Nexon EV is great for city runabout, and thus makes great sense for city commuters.
However, with growing popularity of EVs and charging infrastructure steadily improving, electric vehicle owners are starting to venture out of the city. This is exactly where Tata Motors will be hoping to tap in with the long-range Nexon EV. Thus, there's a case for both models to exist simultaneously, serving different needs of different buyers.
