Tata EVs making a green statement

Tata Motors has been very proactively advocating the adoption of EVs in the country. The company has been supplying electric passenger cars to several government bodies and institutions as part of the EESL tender it secured in 2017 to supply 10,000 electric vehicles.

Even earlier last month, Tata supplied 14 units of the new Xpres-T to Kolkata's Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers. Tata Motors, through the EV ecosystem called ‘Tata uniEVerse’ is also working with other Tata Group companies including Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Auto Components, Tata Motors Finance and Croma to drive faster adoption of e-mobility in India.

As for the Nexon EV itself, it is currently India’s best-selling electric passenger vehicle and commands a market share of nearly 70 percent in the rapidly growing market for EVs. At present, there are nearly 6,000 Nexon EVs plying on Indian roads.

Tata Nexon EV features

The Nexon EV is equipped with a powerful and high-efficiency 127hp permanent-magnet AC motor, powered by a high capacity 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. High on connectivity, it also offers 35 mobile app- based features ranging from remote commands, vehicle tracking to driving behaviour analytics, navigation, and remote diagnostics.

What has worked in the Nexon EV’s favour, besides its SUV appeal, are its sorted fundamentals and a value-for-money price tag that undercuts the nearest rival by over Rs 7 lakh. In the past year, Tata Motors has tweaked certain aspects of the vehicle after analysing the driving behaviour of several EV users and incorporated relevant customer feedback in its latest software update to make the Nexon EV’s driving experience smoother and the car more user friendly.

Upcoming Tata EVs in India

Tata will soon be expanding its electric passenger vehicle portfolio with the launch of the 2021 Tata Tigor EV on August 31, 2021. Powered by the company’s Ziptron tech, the Tigor EV is likely to undercut the Nexon EV’s Rs 13.99-16.85 lakh price range. This means that the upcoming Tigor EV will be the most affordable EV available to private buyers in India.
