Tata Motors has introduced Apple CarPlay on the Nexon’s infotainment system, which was previously available only with Android Auto. The higher-spec trims of the Nexon – the XZ, XZ+ and XZA+ (automatic) – get the Harman-sourced 6.5-inch infotainment system that responds to voice commands.
While new models will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, older models can get the software update – R12.50 (up from R11.31) – at their respective Tata dealerships. The update is said to take 30min to install.
The Nexon compact SUV is available with Tata’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (from the Revotron series) making 110hp and 170Nm of torque, and the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel motor (from the Revotorq series) that produces 110hp and 260Nm of peak torque. Both engines have two transmission options – a six-speed manual and a six-speed AMT.
The Nexon compact SUV has been quite a success for Tata, helping the company to post a 14 percent growth in domestic sales in July 2018. The brand brought out the AMT-equipped model earlier this year, albeit in the top-spec XZA+ trim, and then, more recently, introduced a lower-spec XMA variant as well. The automatic models have significantly added to Tata’s Nexon sales figures.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport rival has recently got another feather in its cap – the latest round of Global NCAP’s crash tests saw the compact SUV gain a four-star rating.
