Tata Motors recently launched the Punch CNG priced between Rs 7.10 lakh-9.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and we’ve now got our hands on the official fuel efficiency figures. Read to know more.

  1. Punch CNG has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.99km/kg
  2. Rivals the Hyundai Exter CNG

Tata Punch CNG powertrain and fuel efficiency

The Punch CNG comes with the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine that does duty in the petrol-powered version, but it's only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine produces 86hp and 113Nm of torque in petrol mode, which reduces to 73.4hp and 103Nm in CNG mode.

Coming to the fuel efficiency, the Punch CNG has an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency figure of 26.99km/kg. In comparison, the Punch CNG’s main competitor, the Hyundai Exter CNG, has a slightly higher claimed fuel efficiency of 27.10km/kg. It’s worth noting, however, that the real-world efficiency of both these models will differ from these claimed figures.

Tata Punch CNG more details

The Punch is the fourth model in Tata’s CNG line-up after the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. The Punch CNG is available in three trims – Pure, Adventure and Accomplished – with the latter two also getting the optional packages as offered with the regular Punch. Tata is, however, not offering the CNG kit on the top-spec Creative trim.

Like other models in the carmaker's CNG line-up, the Punch can also be started directly in CNG mode, a feature not offered by its rivals. The Punch CNG features Tata Motors' dual-cylinder setup that we have already seen on the Altroz CNG. Essentially, a large 60-litre tank has been split equally into two smaller tanks, and has been positioned under the boot floor to free up storage. The Punch CNG has a boot capacity of 210 litres, which is 156 litres less than the petrol-powered Punch.
