- Comes with a single 1.2-litre petrol
- Also gets a CNG powertrain
Since its launch, the Punch has been a popular choice among buyers looking for a high-riding vehicle positioned below the Nexon. According to Tata Motors, the Punch hit the one lakh sales milestone in just ten months, with the two lakh sales coming up in May 2023, and the three lakh sales mark in December that year. It hit the four lakh sales milestone in July.
The Punch comes with a tried-and-tested 1.2-litre petrol engine that's paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The Punch CNG is available with a manual gearbox only but gets a twin-cylinder setup that opens up more cargo space than the usual CNG tank layout. Dealers tell us that the Punch Adventure is the most popular variant with the petrol powertrain.
The Punch EV comes with either an 82hp or a 114hp motor, two battery options and five variants. Long range models get the option of a 7.2kW AC fast charger for a premium. The Punch EV Empowered+ LR generates the highest customer interest and sales, according to dealers.
Tata Motors says that in terms of overall sales in FY2024, the Punch petrol accounted for 53 percent, while the Punch EV and CNG models contributed 14 percent and 33 percent, respectively.
The Punch currently rivals the Hyundai Exter and the Citroen C3. It will also see competition from the Kia Syros when it's introduced next year. The Syros is expected to be positioned below the Sonet.
