Tata Motors has announced a voluntary recall campaign for its diesel-engined Tigor compact sedan. The recall applies to models built between March 6 and December 1, 2017, to fix a potential emissions issue.

Tigors with a chassis number between MAT629401GKP52721 and MAT629401HKN89616 will be contacted by Tata dealers to rectify the issue. Owners can also contact Tata workshops via a toll free number (1800 209 7979) in order to get more information and book an appointment.

The brand claims that this issue will not hamper the safety of the Tigor in any way and that they are safe to drive regardless of the fix.

The Tigor sits below the Zest compact sedan in Tata’s line-up and is powered by a choice of three-cylinder engines – an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol and a 70hp, 1.05-litre diesel. The former gets a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, while the latter is mated solely to a 5-speed manual. The brand recently brought out a mid-spec special edition model called the Buzz for the Tigor which gets a few cosmetic changes.

The Tigor currently retails from Rs 4.84 lakh to Rs 7.19 lakh and is considered a viable alternative to the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire (Rs 5.60-9.45 lakh), Honda Amaze (Rs 5.81-9.15 lakh), Ford Aspire (Rs 5.82-8.79 lakh) and Volkswagen Ameo (Rs 5.62-10.02 lakh; all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
