Hyundai Alcazar Signature (O): what’s new?
New to the Signature (O) trim, where (O) denotes an automatic version, is a seven-seater layout with bench seats for the middle row. It’s worth noting that with the introduction of this new variant, all diesel-automatic versions of the Alcazar (Prestige, Platinum and Signature) are now available with seven seats. Meanwhile, a seven-seater petrol-automatic configuration is now available on the Platinum and Signature trims of the Alcazar. That said, the seven-seater configuration in this variant makes do with a single-tone paint scheme as the dual-tone shades are reserved for the six-seater.
The equipment list on the Signature (O) trims of the newly launched seven-seater versions remain unchanged. It continues to be offered with features such as 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, six airbags, tyre pressure monitor, front and rear parking sensors, drive and traction modes, paddleshifters and much more. It, however, loses out on the floor-mounted centre console for the middle row with a wireless charger, that’s also exclusive to the six-seater variants.
Hyundai Alcazar: variant rejig
Hyundai keeps updating the variant line-up of its models from time to time. Just earlier this month, Hyundai discontinued the base Prestige six-seater versions of the Alcazar petrol, possibly due to low demand. Back in September, Hyundai had introduced a new diesel-automatic seven-seater version on the Platinum trim of the Alcazar. The seven-seater configuration was eventually rolled out on the petrol-automatic Platinum trim as well.
Hyundai Alcazar: powertrain options
The Hyundai Alcazar comes with the choice of one petrol and one diesel engine. The petrol engine is a 159hp, 191Nm, 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit, while the diesel is the familiar 115hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre unit from the Creta. Both units come paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes.
Hyundai Alcazar: rivals
The Hyundai Alcazar rivals the likes of the Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. The top-spec seven-seater Adventure variant of the Safari costs Rs 22.16 lakh* and the special Gold Edition version costs Rs 23.20 lakh* – although its only available with a diesel powertrain. The Safari is considerably more expensive than the Alcazar, even though the former is not as well equipped as the latter.
Meanwhile, the top-spec seven-seater MG Hector Plus is priced at Rs 19.35 lakh*, although it’s only available in a diesel-manual guise. And while the Hector Plus does come in a petrol variant, it’s only available in a mid-spec trim and manual guise.
